Keno was first played in 200 before Christ by the Chinese military commander, Cheung Leung who used this game as a way to finance his declining forces. The metropolis of Cheung was waging a battle, and after a bit of war time seemed to be looking at a country wide shortage of food with the drastic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung had to develop a quick response for the financial calamity and to acquire revenue for his army. He, as it follows developed the game we know today as keno and it was a great success.
Keno was known as the White Pigeon Game, because the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from bigger locations to the tinier towns. The lotto ‘Keno’ was brought to the USA in the 1800s by Chinese immigrants who came to the US to work. In those times, Keno was played with one hundred and twenty numbers.
Today, Keno is regularly gambled on with 80 numbers in most of American land based casinos along with internet casinos. Keno is mainly played today because of the relaxed nature of wagering the game and the simple fact that there are no skills needed to enjoy Keno. Despite the reality that the odds of getting a win are terrible, there is constantly the hope that you might win quite big with a tiny gambling investment.
Keno is played with eighty numbers and 20 numbers are selected each game. Gamblers of Keno can choose from two to ten numbers and gamble on them, as much or as little as they want to. The payout of Keno is dependent on the wagers made and the roll out of matching numbers.
Keno has grown in acceptance in the US since the end of the 19th century when the Chinese letters were changed with more familiar, American numbers. Lottos weren’t covered under the legalization of gaming in Nevada State in Nineteen Thirty One. The casinos renamed the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the idea that the numbers are horses and you want your horses to come in. When the Nevada government passed a law that taxed off track gambling, casinos swiftly altered the name to ‘Keno’.
